Waynesburg University Department of Fine Arts and the Music Program will host its Spring Concert Saturday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Roberts Chapel. Admission is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.
Psalms 33:3, “Sing unto him a new song; play skillfully with a loud noise,” is the inspiration for the concert. It was planned to give thanks through music for all the blessings of this life whether great or small. The Lamplighter Concert Choir and the University Symphonic Band will perform in this celebratory spring concert.
The Waynesburg University Symphonic Band has commissioned a three-movement work for winds and percussion dedicated to Professor Susan Phillips, Chair of the Department of Fine Arts and professor of art, on her retirement. This work will be premiered during the annual spring concert.
Visual art and music collide as three different shades of color are portrayed through sound. Representing crimson are Mediterranean style harmonics and rhythmic ebbs and flows. Smooth blues and soulful solos take the form of midnight blue, while sun gold presents a light-hearted and playful rhythm.
The three shades span the range of the visible light spectrum and have diverse sounds. This varied selection represents Professor Phillips’s affinity for eclecticism in both the visual and auditory art worlds.
