Conducting Symposium to host Loras Schissel as guest clinician

 

describe the imageJoin guest clinician Loras Schissel as he directs Waynesburg University’s Seventh Annual Conducting Symposium, a two-day series of rehearsal and lecture sessions co-sponsored by Volkwein’s Music. The symposium will be held Friday, Feb. 1 and Saturday, Feb. 2, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Since 1998, Schissel has served as conductor of the Cleveland Symphonic Winds-Blossom Festival Band. He also regularly conducts the Blossom Festival Orchestra. The native of New Hampton, Iowa, has traveled throughout the United States, Europe and Asia, conducting orchestras, bands and choral ensembles in a broad range of musical styles and varied programs.

In the years following his studies at the University of Northern Iowa, Schissel distinguished himself as a prominent conductor, orchestrator and musicologist. He is founder and music director of the Arlington-based Virginia Grand Military Band, an ensemble comprised of current and former members of the four U.S. service bands.

The Waynesburg University Symphonic Band, along with the North Suburban Symphonic Band, will serve as the clinic band for the weekend’s activities.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education extends 14 Act 48 workshop credits for this event. These continuing education hours will be available through Waynesburg University. The course credit registration form will be available upon arrival at the registration table. Participants must attend the entire workshop to receive course credit.
