University announces Teaching with Primary Sources Level 1 Spring Institute
The Waynesburg University Teaching with Primary Sources program will host Teaching with Primary Sources Level 1 at Waynesburg University's North Hills campus. The two-day Spring Institute will take place Saturday, April 13 and Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The free Spring Institute is open to teachers, librarians and professors. Participants will earn 12 PDE Act 48 Activity hours and lunch will be provided at both sessions.
Teachers interested in techniques to address the newly adopted Common Core State Standards are encouraged to attend. Common Core State Standards focus on student literacy, critical thinking and application of content knowledge in the classroom.
The Teaching with Primary Sources program equips teachers with methods and tools from the Library’s digitized collection of primary sources to address this critical need. Teachers and librarians engage in model learning activities and collaborate with colleagues in pairs and small groups. The workshop builds teaching skills necessary for leading students in the development of literacy skills across the curriculum.
Teaching with Primary Sources is funded through the Library of Congress and is administered through Waynesburg University. The Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) program was initiated at Waynesburg University in 2004 as a pilot and was officially launched by the Library of Congress in 2006.
Waynesburg University TPS continues to serve educators throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania. The Waynesburg University Teaching with Primary Sources program is a professional development provider for in-service and pre-service educators and works with schools, universities, libraries and foundations to help teachers use the Library’s vast collection of digitized primary sources to enrich their classroom instruction.
