University students to serve in Tuba City

describe the imageMelissa Sargent, assistant to the director of the Stover Center for Constitutional Studies and Moral Leadership, and Frank Pazzynski, associate professor of education, will lead 11 students to serve at a Native American reservation in Tuba City, Ariz., from Saturday, May 11 until Saturday, May 18.

The group will serve with Navajo and Hopi peoples and will learn about their history and perspectives. Students will work in the school in a number of capacities including preparing a school carnival, a sports banquet, a Hero’s Day, a prom, a National Honor Society banquet and graduation.

Students participating in the mission service trip include:

•    Theresa Butler, a sophomore accounting major from Uniontown (Laurel Highlands High School)
•    Jenna Blissman , a junior early childhood/special education major from Greensburg (Greater Latrobe High School)
•    Devin Coughlin, a sophomore international cultures major from Belvidere, N.J. (Belvidere High School)
•    Emma Emmiliani, a sophomore criminal justice administration major from Canton (Canton Area High School)
•    Brittney Nimal, a junior forensic accounting major from Hickory (Fort Cherry High School)
•    T’Ericka Perry, a  junior international cultures major from Baltimore, Md. (Kenwood High School)
•    Madelyne Pieringer, a junior English/secondary education (literature) major from Ligonier (Laurel Valley High School)
•    Jonathan Sandoval, a freshman math/secondary education major from Chagrin Falls, Ohio (Kenston High School)
•    Cori Schipani, a junior interactive design major from Duquesne (Wilson Christian Academy)
•    Abby Wernert, a sophomore with an undeclared major from Finleyville (Ringgold High School)
•    Allyson Wernert, a sophomore international cultures major from Finleyville (Ringgold High School)
